Got 5 minutes to improve your life? In today's world we are all so busy checking Facebook & Instagram, responding to emails and every other thing that requires us to be on our phones and computers. And because of that stress is at an all time high.

According to the American Psychological Association’s Stress in America survey, chronic stress is up. In fact, the APA is considering it a public health crisis. Like many American's I am sure that you feel the weight of the stress on your body. But, the good news is that you can make the change today and you only need a few minutes each day to change your stress levels.


Okay, I know you have heard this before. And you say to yourself, "I am breathing". But, its how you breathe that is important. Most people breath through their chest and are unaware that they are breathing this way. However, if you learn how to breathe through the diaphragm and slow your breathing through your stomach it can help you reduce stress and focus on calming your mind and heart.


Whether your a cat person or a dog person we all know that pets can make us feel better. Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found that animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood. You don't have to rush out and buy a pet. But, you can volunteer at your local shelter or hang with your bestie who has a loving pet.


We were all taught when we were kids to play nice and be nice to each other. Unfortunately, this skill was never taught to us when comes to ourselves. Paying attention to how you speak to yourself can have a huge impact to your stress levels. Notice, what you are saying to yourself and practice compassion for yourself.


Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. Living in Minnesota where the sun can hide from us weeks at time can be challenging. The solutions are to get out when the sun is out and connect with nature. Connecting with nature can help you feel centered and more focused. Your cloudy day option is to order a sun lamp to help boost your moon on those cloudy days.

The most important thing you can do for yourself, is pay attention to what you need. If you are better connected with your unconscious or subconscious mind you will have a better understanding of what you want and need and how to give it to yourself.
