Coping with the anxiety of the Coronavirus

Worrying about all the news on the corona-virus? Well, that makes perfect sense because the media is everywhere and they are not giving us a break for even a minute. In this article you will find a few tips to help you deal with your worries.

Limit Your Time Online

Information is a powerful thing but it can also be overwhelming and cause your thoughts to run rampant. Set a time limit to how long you will be online. It's a good idea to spend a few minutes in the morning to find out any updates and then go on with your day.

It's All About Perspective

I know you have heard yourself say before that you never have enough time to do....

This lock down can help you do the things you have been putting off to get done. Organizing that closet or connecting with your family. How we look at this situation and how we use it is up to us. You can throw some pillows and blankets on the floor and cuddle with family for a fun movie night. Or you can work together to clean the house. This is an opportunity for all of us to connect with those we love in a different way.

Try Practicing Yoga

I understand if Yoga isn't your thing.

Sometimes trying new things and discovering new activities like dance, stretching or yoga can help you you can benefit from a healthy distraction. Just because we a distancing ourselves does not mean we have to stop moving and getting exercise. Go for a walk or play outside with the kids. Just get moving so that you feel better and stay healthy.

Practice Controlled Breathing

Imagine a place in your mind that always give you peace. For me it's Disney's Castaway Cay Beach. A beautiful white sand beach with a calm ocean in front of me.

Even as I am writing this I can hear the calm ocean sounds calling my name. So, find that perfect place in your mind. When you can see it begin to breath in deeply. Inhale for a count of five and then hold for a count of five then breath out for a count of five.

Feel what it would feel like to be in your perfect place as you control your breath and let your mind settle into the calmness this deep breathing provides.

Is Your Information Correct?

Unfortunately, we live in a time of miss information and scare tactics. We have thousands of post on Facebook and other social media sites with headlines that mislead the public.

It's important that you get your information from a viable source. If your looking for information on the COVID-19 please visit the CDC or World Health Organization website.
